Susie was undisciplined in her Bible reading. Each year she’d find a new program or chart for reading her Bible. Each year—around March or April—she’d drop out of her plan for one reason or another. Leviticus confused her. Numbers bored her. The Revelation of John and several minor prophets frightened her. Susie didn’t want to read the four gospels one after another, because it seemed too repetitious. She tired of the Proverbs, because they seemed so “negative.”

Have you ever heard a quote in a film that literally comes right out of your brain? Similar experience when I watched Agnès Varda's Cleo from 5 to 7 (one of the Great Directors), when she meets a soldier on leave from the battle in Algiers, and he describes a relative who lives in a town so small they don't have theaters, but she reads about film in magazines and can talk about them as if she'd seen them, then Cleo says:

I hate reading reviews. I dislike knowing the story beforehand....

The Faith of George Washington Carver

George Washington Carver was born in Missouri toward the end of the Civil War. His parents, slaves owned by two neighboring farms, were lost to him in infancy. Moses and Susan Carver raised George and his older brother Jim.
Sickness weakened the body of young George Washington Carver, but not his mind or his spirit. The young boy was bright, sensitive and talented. He was artistic and eventually learned to paint. He also had a gifted voice, and loved to sing hymns of praise to the Lord....
