Exploring Arizona Day 2

Posted 10-30-2015 at 05:01 PM by Deelighted

Had a bad night at the campsite. Someone decided it was ok to set up a camp at 12:30 am! In fact, when I left my campsite around 6:30 am, the guy asked me to give him a ride to the gate so he could get his truck and was offended when I said no!

Since it was still so early in the morning (and my body clock was still on Indiana time!), I decided to head to Bisbee and stop for breakfast somewhere along the way. I took Hwy. 82 through Patagonia and Sonoita and turned south on Hwy. 90. My Garmin told me to take Hwy. 92 so I did take 92 south from Sierra Vista where I got gas ($11.84 @2.199).

I hadn't found a place to stop for breakfast so it was still rather early in the morning when I arrived in Bisbee. I wandered around for a bit and took a few pics but didn't come across any restaurants so soon got back into my car and headed back to Sierra Vista.

Unlike Benson, I didn't have appointments to view places and without access to my desktop, I wasn't sure which areas of Sierra Vista were the safe areas. On the way to Bisbee, I had noticed signs for a Dennys but didn't spot one of those or any other restaurant on Hwy. 92 and next thing I knew I was back on Hwy. 90 and leaving Sierra Vista! This is when serendipity happened. As I entered Huachuca City I spotted a restaurant on Hwy. 90. The name of the restaurant is Sunny "D" Delight so of course I had to stop and I got the Delight breakfast: 1 scrambled egg, 4 slices of crisp bacon, hash browns and a homemade biscuit (wonderful!).

My waitress was Angie who is very friendly and outgoing. I asked her how she liked living in the area, and she told me she loved it. She lives in the Whetsone area which is where Hwy. 90 meets Hwy. 82. Angie introduced me to Jan, a senior who lives in Huachuca City and Jan was telling me which apartment complexes I should visit. Jan mentioned Huachuca Triangle apartments and told me they were just past the police and fire station on Hwy. 90. I decided to see what Huachuca City had to offer before heading back into Sierra Vista and finding somewhere with wifi to use my kindle.

So I looked for the police and fire station, then turned at the next road. There was an apartment complex with equal housing sign so I turned into the complex. The complex's manager, Kathy, is a wonderful person. Kathy told me there was just one 2 br available but it was on the second floor. The apartment is 915 sq. ft. so it's a big apartment.

When Kathy took me to view the apartment, I could not believe how nice the unit was. There is a big walk-in closet in the master bedroom, and the bathroom is huge with a towel closet in the hall. It has a galley style kitchen with a dishwasher and small walk-in pantry. Kitchen is open concept with 9'x8' dining area next to it and open to the living room. There's a washer/dryer in the large closet next to the dining room and a small coat closet next to the front door. The kitchen, dining area, hallway and bathroom floor is linoleum with living room and bedrooms carpeted. There are views of 2 mountain ranges from the balcony patio. The apartment complex also has solar panels which helps to reduce the electric bills of its residents. The complex also has a pool, workout room and computer lab.

This apartment was so awesome that I knew I wouldn't find anything that could even come close, so I immediately started the paperwork to rent it. Had a few hurdles to overcome with the property's low income auditor not wanting to accept my original pension statement because it was from Wells Fargo and it had to be from originating company but after jumping through a few hoops got that cleared up.

I headed back to Patagonia Park and packed up the campsite. I returned to Huachuca City and stopped at Sunny "D" Delight where I thanks Angie for her help and told her that I'd rented an apartment at Vista Del Norte.

That night as I camped out inside my apartment and the sky opened up with a torrential downpour, I thanked God, my lucky stars, Angie, and Kathy for getting me inside out of that rain! It also rained every day for the next 5 days!

I've posted my pics on Google, and the last 3 images are from my balcony. Here's a link to the album:

I'm so happy that you found a place to live in S.E. AZ. My husband & myself lived in Sierra Vista back in 1993 to 1995. My husband was active duty Army. Those days living there have been the happiest of my life & I'm 69. Currently live in the East Mountains outside of Albuquerque. I can't say I love it. I can't say that people are as friendly as they are in SE AZ or my home states of Texas & Oklahoma. I wish you much happiness there!
