Oh, Paula...

Posted 06-28-2013 at 02:48 PM by Joe the Photog

My first thought is that sometimes witch hunts turn up actual witches. But then I thought, "Is Paula Deen really a witch?" I don't know. From what little I saw of her on TV, I liked her. She reminded me of a cool aunt that I wish I'd had, but I never pretended to know her. And I think that might be the problem with some people. They actually did think they knew her. But they only know the part of her that she lets out on TV and that does not make the cutting room floor.

Maybe Paule Deen is a great lady who over the course of a life has said some things she shouldn't have said. Regardless, the companies who are distancing themselves from her are all well within their rights to do so. They don't want to be associated with her at this time for the things she has admitted to saying. Other famous folk have lost their sponsorship deals for saying dumb stuff, too.

I think she was failed by the people around her. I think if she had come out before the media caught on and admitted these utterances herself, then the backlash would not be so bad. Do a few interviews, admitt that it was wrong and foolish. Instead, she and her PR people let it come out on it's own and then still, they didn't try to get in front of it. By the time she issued those apology videos on YouTube, it was too late.

I'm happy that it is water under the bridge and she is back as of late. I enjoy her sons, too. If nothing else she is a hard worker and an interesting personality.
