Plan For helping the homeless

Posted 12-23-2008 at 02:10 PM by Allen L Beckett

Here is the plan for helping the homeless, I have gone around to Homeless shelters here in the Reno area and asked if the homeless would be on board about 76% said they would.

My Plan: There are hundreds of empty military bases in the U.S.A that we can house the homeless, We can offer them a home food and training and counseling for a verity of things. To help them earn there keep there is also hundreds of federal, state and county buildings in need of cleaning and repair. As they earn there keep and get counseling they need, they are learning to become self sufficient. When they have gained they training and the counseling they need, they can go out to the real world and look for work, and use the address of the base they are at for checks ect. After they have saved enough money they can move into there own apprtment or house off base. Thus getting back into society, and I hope that the ones that do take part and succeed will go back and talk to the other homeless that did not take part and tell them of there success, in hopes to get them to take part. I understand that there is some homeless that want to stay that way, and that is there right we can not force anyone to do something that they don't want. To help pay for this I would offer tax incentives to the states that take part. I would at first pick only three states to take part in a "pilot program" to see if the plan will work. The states would be one in the west, one in the Midwest and one in the east, as what works in the east might not work in the west. After the pilot program if there is enough of homeless that have succeed, I would expand the program.

Hi Allen, I agree with you that something needs to be done regarding the homeless people in this country. Many people are cast into this situation as the economy declines; some people by default, some people by choice. For the people who have chosen to live a different lifestyle there is help for them to make the transition. Mobile living is not for everyone but we have to remember that they are still people and have the same needs as the rest of us. A great, helpful, website for people in transition is cheaprvliving.com Many links are available at that site to provide information. There are many government programs for homeless and hungry people in this country and from what I can determine, they just aren't working as they were designed to. I think that some of the recent "bailout" money could have been spent on the homeless and hungry in this country. That there is one homeless or hungry person in the greatest country in the world is shameful!
