Goodbye and Aloha

Posted 06-23-2015 at 03:47 AM by Drey1891

The big move is approaching fast! Husband's last day of work was Friday. Home inspection to sell our house later today. Appraisal Friday. They are coming to get our stuff in 2 and a half weeks!

Here's the plan. Husband is leaving with the kids right after the 4th of July weekend. They are going to do a major road trip across the country, hitting up Mammoth Caverns, the Grand Canyon, and several pockets of family and friends along the way. They are planning on camping most of the way out there. End is in Livermore, California, where they will spend several days with several good friends and relatives. He will drop the car off at the port in Oakland and then fly out with kiddos on the 22nd. Incidentally, we have christened the car Bilbo since it is taking a long journey towards the mountain of fire (Kilauea volcano).

I am working here until the 23rd, then getting on a plane with the dog on the 25th to LA. We are overnighting there so that the dog doesn't have to be on the plane for so long in one stretch. The next day, I come to my new home. Husband better be waiting there with a Mai-tai.

Apparently schools in Hawaii start EARLY, on the 29th of July! So as soon as we get there, we will have to get the kids registered and ready for school.

Then, I have 2 wonderful weeks off in Hawaii before I start my new job August 15th.

Our next two weeks here will be bittersweet. Lots of goodbyes, lots of doing things for the last time. A place does put roots into your heart after 7 years.

Incidentally, I met a middle aged man from Uruguay who was driving for Uber here. I asked him what brought him to Pittsburgh. He said "I don't really know, life just seemed a bit stale. Sometimes you just gotta pack everything up and do something else for awhile." Amen brother.
