Scottsdale, AZ... Locals
Hi! My family and I are relocating due to my husbands job and we are looking at a house in N. Scottsdale, Grayhawk area and was wanting to know if this is a nice place to live?? I have never been to AZ so I really don't know where to start looking. Also, we have 2 small girls... 1 yr. and 3 yrs so would this neighborhood be family friendly??

(Edit - just realized how ancient this subject/thread (OP's) was. Oh well, hope my repsonse helps someone!)
I'm in mid-south part of town so not expert in the north part of town anymore, but yes very nice...but plan on a lot of traffic/time between Grayhawk/N. Scottsdale and Phoenix/Tempe sports, entertainment or dowtown/Old Town Scottsdale goings-on, if you're into that a lot...OR similarly a relatively heavy commute to downtown/uptown Phoenix. If you plan to stick to mostly mid-to-north Scottsdale and North Phoenix activities, you'll be fine. I'd suggest looking mid Scottsdale (between Camelback and the 101) if focusing on a lot of the more "southerly" oriented activities mentioned above. That said, the 101 freeway's close to Grayhawk and will get you places pretty fast anyway, depending on rush hour or not. My recollection is that, in addition to world class golf, the Grayhawk area has a pretty top drawer city-sponsored (?) aquatic facilitiy as well (but I'd verify that). Grayhawk is gorgeous desert in the foothills of the McDowell Mountains. If you're into more greenery (we're talking degrees here) however, again I'd focus a little bit further south in town, again generally staying north of Camelback
Edit - "Arcadia" is the prime East Phoenix area bordering on Scottsdale - between Indian School and Camelback (south-to-north), and 44th/68th Streets (west-to-east). An older area with very large, irrigted lots (own water company), and close to "everything" - downtown Scottsdale and central Phoenix activities - is another area to look if you like it comparatively more lush (large grassy lawns, etc). Inbetween that and Grayhawk would be areas like "Gainey Ranch," "McCormick Ranch" and "Scottsdale Ranch," if talking to a realtor.Posted 03-24-2013 at 01:09 AM by azroadrunner
