Moving back to Texas

Posted 01-30-2013 at 09:14 AM by thgirlscientist

I recently made a life-changing decision. I have decided to move back to Texas, where I was born. I haven't lived in Texas (and have only visited a few times) since I was 20 years old. (I wonder if it will seem the same??) Probably not - the only constant is "change".
This hasn't been a "snap-decision". I have been living in New Mexico for the past 18 years (except for a stint in Florida) and I truly love many things about New Mexico.
At this time of my life (retired.... finally!) I think Texas is the place for me. In the state of Texas, there is an option to live in a country setting yet be near a city
My choice spot is the general area of the DFW Metroplex, a small city west of Ft. Worth. I haven't definitely made plans but will drive to the area next month and look at properties.
I believe I will be safer living in Texas. There is considerably less crime there (I've checked this out) and the laws are a little more strict and the general consensus is a bit more conservative.
The news broadcast here in ABQ is rampant with murders, drugs, DWI's and unimaginable crimes. It's hard to listen to the news without cringing One reason for this is (I believe) the known fact that NM is the state where welfare isi easy to get! Therefore, the poverty-stricken come by the droves. And pregnant women come across the border from Mexico to have their babies. A few days ago it was announced that 7 out of 10 babies born in NM are Medicaid babies!
I am very excited, now that I have totally made up my mind and planning my move. I will post my findings after I return next month (February) from looking around my future city.
