Why isn't gay marriage legal nationwide?

Posted 10-28-2012 at 02:27 PM by allhailluis69

I was just wondering why same-sex marriage isn't legal nationwide. And please don't say "because the bible says" because not everyone is a christian so stop pushing your beliefs onto others.

The reason it is not legal nationwide is because some Christians think "the bible says" so they feel they must push their beliefs onto others. That is it in a nutshell. Our founding fathers in particular Thomas Jefferson who despised organized religion and was horrified by the religious wars in Europe at the time (this does not make it into our history books as a general rule) attempted to rectify this with the concept of separation of church and state. However, the tug of war between the two ways of thinking continues to this day.

That kind of thing has, as you know, become a statewide decision in a few states. It will never become a national decision because different states have different sets of laws, so such an idea nationally would be tough to enforce anyway.
