Moving from West Michigan to Minne or St.Paul

Hopefully someone can give me some insight on what's it like there. A few questions i need to be answered to start is, 
do the Twin Cities really feel isolated compared to living in Grand Rapids, Mi where Detroit is 2 1/2 hours away and Chicago is just 3 ? Is it a huge ajustment coming from MI to MN (hopefully someone who has made the move can give me some advice). Any feedback would be appreciated
