My husband and I are moving to Houston soon and I was wondering if there are any safe areas downtown to live... I'd like a place where I feel comfortable walking the dog in the early morning and sometimes evening... Also, a place that has easy access to grocery shopping, cultural events (is basically convenient).. My husband's job will be downtown so that's the logic with moving downtown... I've also looked at The Woodlands but it seems like it might be a long commute for him... To sum up we're looking for a place with:
1) short commute downtown
2) very safe
3) has cultural activities
4) nice place to walk
5) close to groceries, etc...
I'd love to get some advice!

Houston - need advice on where to live

My husband and I are moving to Houston soon and are not familiar with the area. Here's what we're looking for, your input/advice is much appreciated:
1) SAFE - we walk our dog at night and in the morning so it MUST be a safe area
2) My husband will be working downtown so somewhere that has a shorter commute would be great!
3) Close to grocery, parks, walking trails (we're very active so anything close to outdoor activities would be great)
4) Looking to spend about $900-$950/mo on rent
