Mt. Washington Vs. Crestwood, Kentucky

Crestwood Kentucky landed 53rd on the CNN/Money’s top 100 places to live in 2005 only to disappeared off the list like a whack-o-mole. I can’t say why it hasn’t shown up again but it has many features that make it a terrific community.
Initially I found it intimidating comparing our little town to affluent Crestwood. They have great schools, newly expanded roads, beautiful rolling verdant hills. Oh yeah, and a prison, horrible traffic on 71 during rush hour, and annoyingly high tax rates. Now I’m not so intimidated.
Our communities have much in common. They are both growing suburbs with new churches and new schools, and in both towns most of the houses were built in the last 15 years. As a people we are about equally conservative (‘08 election results), mostly white collar, and about the same age.
Crestwood has some distinguishing qualities that sets it apart though. It has pretty rolling countryside, horses, and quaint turn-of-the-century rail road town ambiance. There’s Duncan Memorial, a little stone chapel, which is very popular for weddings. The Little Colonel Playhouse has live theater. In 2005 Yew Dell Gardens opened. It is a botanical garden that has classes for children, a concert series, plant sales, and sculpture shows. And finally, they are near the Aquatic Center in Buckner which is fantastic. Besides fountains and slides for the kids it has a lap pool, spacious public locker rooms, and a friendly professional staff.
Though we lack refinement by comparison we are the up-and-comers. For starters, we have two relatively new wineries, MilliNova Winery and Broad Run Vineyards. We are getting a new movie theater. They have to drive into Louisville or LaGrange to see a show. We have a new Kroger but they have to drive to LaGrange or up to the Gene Snyder. Our rolling countryside is pretty too and rumor has it our horses are just as happy as theirs.
While Crestwood is tops for schools at the moment we are gaining ground. We are already the best acedemic performer in Bullitt County and we have rising tests scores, new schools, and increasingly impressive high school athletes.
We are a safer community. Both communities are substantially safer than most U.S. cities according to the crime statistics gathered by the National Association of Realtors. The average U.S. has an crime index of 100, the lower the better. Crestwood has a crime index of 33 while Mt. Washington scores a 21.
And finally, taxes. You’ll pay about $1.10 more per thousand in property value in Crestwood than in Mt. Washington.

Thank you for the comparison.....I have been trying to decide where to live.....husband says Mt. Washington.....I have been saying Crestwood.......your comparison was helpful, but my biggest problems when I look down there is that development does not look very well planned, many old buildings and it doesn't seem to have many trees. I've only been down there a few times- So tell me am I looking in the wrong areas of the city?
