Writing
I have received several supportive messages from readers who enjoy my posts, asking if by chance, I were a "writer". I guess that depends on what being "a writer" entails.
I am "a reader"; I love to read. I appreciate the type of writing that evokes emotion and provides insights and I also enjoy the precise exposition of ideas.
At times I have spent time trying my hand at writing: poetry, fables, and family history. I have never had any courses in writing and have never been published nor made any part of my living at it, other than work related reports and assessments.
I have several projects that I would like to finish; the first is to transcribe and annotate a historical diary which was written by my Great Aunt in 1861. Another would be a collection of essays that gathers up my family's oral history.
I am aware that I am probably the one who remembers and knows most of the stories and lore of our family and if I don't record it, much of it will be lost or will undergo the transformation that happens to all stories that are passed along verbally as recalled at a much later date. I am sure that my recall alters what my parents and grandmother told me and that some of the anecdotes are unknown or similarly altered by the younger generation.
This blog entry is to chide myself and to urge me to get going.

How interesting - a diary from a Great Aunt in 1861
The elder people often have wonderful stories to tell. I love listening to old people chat for hours about "when I was younger ....." it's amazing!Posted 08-30-2008 at 05:35 PM by 2goldens -

Hi there,
yes just do it, I myself want to do the same.
I keep looking for my little cottage to retire to
somewhere nice and quaint. Where I can set up
my computer and write my books. One about me
and another about something or someone else.
The trouble is, my little cottage that would be per
fect for me is about 200 thousand dollars more than
I can afford. LOL!!! Im getting very bored and tired
of waiting.
Just do it, and keep us reading.

Get going, get writing elston...I'm a writer, and I enjoy writing poetry, too. It is important to write something everyday, or research what you are writing about everyday...just like it was any other job, you do it everyday. At least if you're like me, and hope to become published one day. I have been writing a war novel for over four years now...I never thought it would take this long! But, helping my husband start his business really took my focus...but hey, it's what's really paying the bills! Good luck, elston...a lot of us CD poets share our stuff on the Games forum, the sticky at the top for creative endeavors...share with us...
