IS Westminster and it's communities and school's accepting to minorities? Or do they assume that every hispanic is an illegal? I hope i get some feefback. I would hate to move my children into an area that they would not feel comfortable in.any help is appreciated.

I don't know about Wade St. I can't seem to find it on Mapquest either. As for your questions about minorities in Westminster I will say this. There are not many of them. Westminster and Carroll County in general is an overwhelmingly white community (95% plus.) Rural Carroll County has a long relationship with the KKK, especially out in the western part of the county. Westminster itself is a little more diverse and accepting, but don't move there expecting it be like Howard, Baltimore, or Montgomery Counties.

Which is a perfect number for us right now.I have 4 kids. One just started highschool and 3 in elementary school. Is there an area that you could recommend. I see homes in towns like Taneytown and Manchester any info on these towns?

I lived on PA ave about 10 years ago. It is not the best part of town, but no part of Westminster is bad like you would find in places closer to Baltimore and Washington. When I lived in that neighborhood, my friends and I walked around all hours of day and night with no problems. I think Ward St. would be fine.

I don't want to bash Taneytown, because I love small traditional MD towns, but I don't want to give you a "pie in the sky" description of the town and have you move there unprepared. It is nearly uniformly white, and has a strong historic association with the KKK. If you and your family are hispanic, you would almost certainly have a uphill battle in the community and schools. If you search the city-data forum with the word "Taneytown" you should find a long thread describing the attitudes in the town.

Sorry, don't know much about Manchester.

Here are the demographics for Westminster -
    https://www.city-data.com/city/Westminster-Maryland.html

I've lived in Maryland my entire life. (A very long time )

Now is THE THE THE time to buy in Montgomery county, Carroll County, Howard County etc. (neighboring counties to Carroll county - where Westminster, MD is) if you were ever going to. Montgomery county & others have been hit as hard as anyone else with the current mortgage crisis.

Look for short-sales and you can buy a house for a steal - though the sale takes longer and does not always ratify, if you want to buy there - I know this to be a great way to buy a home and save a fortune and get into an outstanding neighborhood with excellent schools.

Montgomery County property taxes are extremely high in comparison to other counties in Maryland. If you have kids it's worth it - the schools are excellent.

Westminster is known for having a larger amount of property compared to neighboring cities. People who like space and want (affordable) land like this area. You cannot get the amount of land that you can get in Westminster, in areas such as Clarksburg (Montgomery County) without paying twice as much if not more. Land is gold in many spots of Maryland.

Westminster is a safe area- whatever "safe" means. I've been exposed to many areas and counties throughout Maryland. Had the commute been closer to work, Westminster is where I would have bought my most recent home purchase. The prices are lower there for a few reasons; the commute to get to where the jobs are, the homes are older, and the water supply is limited and on occasion they impose restrictions.

I saw some comments re: KKK. In over 40 years I've yet to come across any KKK. Every race, religion, and nationality you can think of is in this area - this is "part of" the nations capitol - everybody is here. Speaking of which - we have traffic that few have experienced before. I've heard of folks complaining of Houston,TX traffic... and I giggle. I know what their traffic is like. Maryland's 495 and some spots in VA - we have 4 of the top 12 worst traffic spots in the nation. I sit in two of them every day. Bring your patience with you.

Gas today was $3.70ish (update) for the cheap gas - depends where you go.

The best database I've found to search for homes in this area is homesdatabase.com. If it's listed on the MLS it's on that database- free too!

I know some realtors in this area - if you specifically where you want to buy - city or county - I might know somebody that can work with you in a given area. It's best to work with an agent that specializes in a given location - some counties have different requirements and you want your agent aware of them. I don't know someone for every area of MD, but for Montgomery, Howard and Carroll I think I know realtors in each of those areas.
