In one way it might be a good idea. But why does it have to be cars newer than '92? Why not the ones that are older than? Those are the ones who suck the fuel, and pollute the air, most of the newer ones are relatively effecient.
At first I thought it would be a good idea. But after watching a couple of videos on youtube, how they drain the oil and replace with liquid glass, then rev up the rpms so high till the engine finally blows, is sickening. These are very nice cars, many very expensive, and somewhat fuel effecient already...why destroy them? There are many out there who simply cant afford a car, or what if youre a family with 4 or more kids, you NEED a mini van. You cant cram 4 kids into some 2 passenger sardine can!
And 4500.00 bucks isnt CRACKER CRUMBS in trying to buy a car that the govt 'wants' you to buy, heck many people cant afford to pay the rent, in this economy who can afford to finance a car?? DUH! People already are having to bundle up and live in a 2 family house, or have a minimum of one roomie to pay the rent. There are those (and I know of 2, personally) who have actual degrees and certs in a field...and are out of work. Another friend I know, who made 60k a year, got laid off from his company because he was one of the higher-ups and higher paid employees. What does that tell you? NO job is 100% secure. I can bet, in a year or so, repos are going to multiply big time, because people traded in their already paid off cars for this, and now they'll have nothing at all. Lets do the numbers. Your car is paid off, or almost paid off. You go into debt for another 3-5 years. Does that make sense? I wouldnt trade my little truck for 45,000.00 bucks, much less for a piddly 4500.00! Im sorry but not after seeing what they do to these vehicles, to make sure no one else can have them. This was very disturbing.
Some may take it with a grain of salt, and not think anything of this. They are looking at the dollar signs now, not in the future. Sure, I get emotional, about destruction, but again, what little I have, was worked hard for, and taken care of, because I simply CANT afford not to.
What about families who simply cant afford something? Poor families who have to walk their kids everywhere because they cant afford a car? Or maybe a college student who needs to commute to a part time job to live? Or maybe donate to single moms who have nothing, they have to walk them to school, and/or to daycare, walking to work to support their kids through heat, rain, snow, whatever weather?? Why not donate for a good cause, to these ones? Or, maybe part it out so people can afford to fix the cars they have now? I know, it would be showing people you care, thats why. You cant do that.
By the way, why arent the higher-ups in politics doing this to their cars, or setting an example themselves? Im not going there.
One video in particular literally brought tears, it was sickening. They destroyed a perfectly nice Jeep Cherokee, ran it till it started smoking, then choking, then the smoke was so intense it rose about 50 ft in the air, and they still continued gunning it, till it finally seized up and died. (Isnt this supposed to be a 'clean air' issue, by the way???)
Then they stand there laughing about it. Im sorry but my truck is one not only did I work hard for but for the first time in my life, got something that met everything I ever wanted/needed in a truck. AND its not like its some fuel-sucker either, its a 6-banger. Why would I throw out a $****** truck for a lousy 4500.00 down payment on something that is only going to mean more payments, and for another 5 years?! It would tear me up to know whats going to happen to it. No ,I dont love it that much, but thinking about it is very disturbing, emotional. Ive always been one to take care of what I have. I couldnt fathom letting this type of thing happening and never thought this is what they did.
Those who do agree with it, whats stopping YOU/THEM from doing so? Point made.
Well, now that Ive said my piece, Ive got a busy day ahead. Catch y'all in the forums.

I know, It is ridiculous. I saw them kill the engine on a perfectly good corvette, that was worth a whole lot more than $4500. It just makes me mad. Maybe thats just cause I love old cars.
