Back to the USA; Vermont, Here We Come!

Canada's Old Quebec and Montreal were nice, but I'm ready for "parleying" some good old time English! Never again will I look in wonder at a non-English speaking visitor to the USA. Those folks need help, I'm there! I cannot believe how incredibly isolated I've felt since being in Quebec, and I have a smattering of French.
I have to say in general that the people of the province were very kind and helpful, helping us negotiate our poor language skills where ever they could.
Further, our US schools did NOTHING for its students when it dropped the foreign language requirements. Looking back, I was thrilled to only have to learn one language by the time I reached high school. Fortunately for me, I chose French. Still, I would've been better served had I learned Spanish, too, given the fact that I worked two years in Mexico, but that's another blog.
Anyway, NOW, I am glad to be heading to Vermont this morning, where it looks like we will be enjoying one day without rain. How will we spend it? Biking, hiking, or kayaking? It appears all those and more are available.
Hmmmm, life is good.![Smile](https://pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)

As Dorothy said to the Scarecrow...There's no place like home!
Welcome back to the U.S....and I agree with you on the foreign language. I really wish all public schools would offer foreign language starting in elementary school...that is when the human brain is primed for absorbing it easily.Posted 07-23-2009 at 12:45 PM by Hepcat
