Sleepless in the South...

I'm so tired, so dang sleepy. Night after night I watch the clock turn over to midnight or one. If I could just get in bed and go to sleep, I would feel much better the next day. But sleep eludes me and I am but a shell, staggering around during the day trying to wake up.
No, I do not have insomnia, my son does. My 14 year old son has not been able to go to sleep before one a.m. for over a week now, ever since school started. And of course, if he can't sleep, that means I can't sleep. He keeps coming in and out of my room, his face scrunched up --half way between a scowl and a grimice. He is whiney and now is getting panic attacks when it is bed time.
I am at my wits end on what to do for him, and don't know how much longer we can hold out with little sleep.
I've researched online and really can't find anything to help. And, I can't seem to get enough information from A to find out what the root problem might be.
I had hoped after a week or so he would get into a routine and go to sleep easily--no such luck.
This is so very unusual for A. This is the child that would be fast asleep by 8:30 night after night, and he would do this on his own too!
Last night, I gave him a dose of benedryl, his allergies were acting up and he did go to bed a bit earlier, but he refused to take any tonight even though his allergies are still bothering him.
I am just stumped on how to treat him, and am almost at the stage where I feel I must take him to the doctor.
I just hope this saga ends quickly...sigh.

could do what we do..tell them to stay up as long as they want and watch tv or whatever but we are going to bed..dont make too much noise..seems like trying to make yourself sleep when your body doesnt want to only make its worse. I feel for you both.

Have you considered melatonin? Look into it so that you know the facts. Both hubby and have taken it when needed. Also give it to two of the kids. DM me if you want. <><
