2008-09 Carolina Hurricanes review

Posted 06-17-2009 at 12:40 PM by Canes2006Champs

All I can say is: What a memorable season. From the great start to the 5 game losing streak to replacing head coaches to 9 game winning streak to exciting playoff finishes, it was a season to remember.

Season started off kinda iffy but cool, won some big games, lost some we shoulda won, etc. Then came December, and Peter Laviolette gets released from coaching duties, and Paul Maurice is rehired. We win some, we lose some. Then we get into March and Erik Cole rejoins us at the deadline. We get hot, Red Hot. We finally clinch a playoff spot with about 4 games to go in a tight eastern conference race.

Then comes the playoffs, New Jersey Devils are our first opponent, 4th time we face them, and they want revenge from 2002 and 2006. Classic series. From Jussi Jokiens buzzer beater in game 4 to late-game heroics in game 7, it was one to remember.

Onto the second round, Boston Bruins await. They swept us in the regular season, they were predicted to win the East, we beat em in 7, on the road, in Overtime.

Then we get swept by Pittsburgh, and the miracle season ends.

I could write a book on this season as a whole, but that would take too long to write and I don't think everyone wants to read all that. Good season Canes and let's get that Cup next year!!

Another Canes Corner edition.
