May 2009 Follow Up

Posted 06-01-2009 at 07:34 AM by Adam DeSilvester

We were blasted with our first heat wave in the first half of May 2009. Within the first 15 days, only a trace of rain had fallen. Luckily, conditions changed by the 16th as more rain came along with cooler temperatures. We have had quite a few days with heavy rain and severe thunderstorms. According to NOAA’s monthly May 2009 chart, there were technically only four days this month with heavy rain. We ended the month at 3.7 degrees F above the normal monthly May temperature (.6 degrees F cooler than May 2008) and with precipitation at 1.57 inches (.91 inches wetter than May 2008). So all in all, May 2009 was very dry for May but we did fair pretty well comparing to last year’s and it is our first dry month since February 2009.
We are now at the welcoming gates of June! This is our second rainiest month of the year and NOAA is calling for an equal chance of us having a wet, dry, or normal June, but they are calling for a hot June though. I’ll be looking forward to writing another post in a month!
