Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

More Scattershooting / A Season Of Change At "The Tonight Show"

Well, gang, hello, once again, and it's time for more this and more that on Case's Column. Let's go all over the place once again because, dadgummit, that's what life throws at us every day. So, let's gather around that computer campfire and I'll bring you some extra marshmallows to brown until just perfect.

This night to come just has to get here sooner or later. I watched as Johnny Carson said goodbye to his faithful flock of viewers on May 22, 1992, and The Tonight Show would just keep evolving once again. They've had Steve Allen, Jack Paar, and Johnny Carson serve as regular hosts through its long, legendary history on television. And on May 29, another change would take place in the host's seat, and with a new twist. The show's erstwhile host, Jay Leno, bid adieu to his post and he had for his final guest one Conan O'Brien. Yes. Him. He's the guy who becomes the next host of The Tonight Show. So, all you TV fans out there, history has been made again. You can tell me what you think in the Comment section below.

In the meantime, here's a link.

My next vacation, in case anyone might be wondering, will take place in Lubbock, Texas. As you've probably read, I've done several blogs on Lubbock, and now I'm going to take some R & R out there. I'm due for a trip back to West Texas, so this is another great road trip opportunity. Stay tuned to Case's Column. I'll probably share a little bit out on the forum pages, too, but you'll find out all the good stuff here.

If you live in Texas, and you've got a trip to take to points west and southwest of Fort Worth, or if you're planning to go to Glen Rose to do some sight-seeing, please be sure to stop by my favorite barbecue place.

Did you know.....that while Gary Stewart had one of the most successful honky-tonk acts in country music history, he only managed three Top 10 hits, with just one making Number 1??

That's right. In a span of eight years beginning in 1974, Stewart had 13 charted country hits, but only had three of them in the Top 10. The casual listener would have expected much more, but no, that was not the case.

And the Word of the Day is smooth. Peanut butter is a very smooth thing. Also very tasty, too. When you spread it on a piece of bread or a cracker, it goes on........smooooooooooth. That's how I like my peanut butter. So smooth.

Makes me want to go grab some Jif and eat the whole jar.

And there you are.

    Happiness is Lubbock. Period.

Have a great stay, and be sure to check out the top restaurants. Enjoy the non-humidity, the friendly people, the cool nights, Ransom Canyon, the light traffic, maybe day trips to Lake Alan Henry, Caprock Canyons, Ruidoso (part of "historic Texas" before the feds mercilessly carved it up), etc.

I believe that they've finished the eastbound lanes of the MSF through the Tech campus and they're finishing up the westbound lanes (or is it the other way around?). Also, the stadium construction should be going full steam by the time you leave. Hopefully the city can have better than average economic growth in the next seven months.

I'm making my itinerary and also putting together a list of restaurants. There's plenty of homework I've got to do and I've got to pay attention to when these places are open. Several are closed on Sunday.

Are you in Lubbock right now, Case? If so, I'm envious. It's waaaaay too hot here in S. Texas.
