Be an Educated Consumer part II (05-27-2009)

Considering how confusing computers are to a large portion of the population, the servicing of such is an even bigger area usually grayed by the lack of standards. Without standards, how can one set a real expectation? The idea here is to understand what the difference is between what you should be getting and what other companies may be telling you that you're getting. The most overly used word in this field is "Experience." Many companies use this as a sole factor to qualify their work and gauge their quality. Experience is very important but it is just as important as tools. A mechanic is only as reliable as his/her tools are. A doctor regardless of his/her level of experience still needs quality tools and machines to make the proper diagnosis. Computers are no different in this relation. Having 15 Years of experience doesn't translate to you using certified or vendor supported tool kits. These kits are relatively expensive, but no level of experience can make up for it.
