My Cat History

Posted 05-26-2009 at 08:13 AM by Rogue&Shady-Abs

I have had 4 cats in my life, all of them from kittens

My first kitty was a gorgeous, adorable girl called Becks who the whole family adored. She was soo timid and so brave. She used to sit on my Mums bump when she was expecting my brother, and sit with me when I was sick. She would also sit on our window ledge and wait for us getting home where she would meet us at the door. When my brother was born, we moved home and while in this process Becks went to stay with my Aunty and Becks Mum Rascal - who was an outdoor cat. Sadly Becks got out one night and was a victim of a hit and run ... she suffered broken ribs and a punctured lung. The vet couldn’t get to her, and my Aunty and my Mum could find transport. She died in my Aunties arms, beside her Mum Rascal.

My second cat was Rascals granddaughter Millie – who was a hyperactive little thing. Her and my then baby brother used to cause mayhem for my Mum together, and would always been found either up to no good, or sound asleep on the sofa. She was a loving cat who was protective over us all. She was a outdoor cat when we got her, and she remained like that. We had her about a year when she went out one snowy night and never returned. We never found out why. We moved house in the summer that year sadly without Millie. Through online social sites, I have been in contact with my then neighbour who has informed me that Millie return about a month after we left, but when she took her in … Millie kept trying to get out – low and behold she had a litter of kittens. They now all live with my ex-neighbour happily.

After Millie and Becks, we were reluctant to get another cat for fear of the heartbreak of losing them again. Yet I really wanted a new kitty, and worked on my Mum and Dad for about 3 years before finally getting my third kitten for my 15th birthday. Shady Fibber arrived at my house in the start of August 2003. He is a placid cat who likes nothing more than a comfy chair beside a radiator or a cosy rug in front of the fire. Even as a kitten he was not interested in toys or playing just running around up and down the stairs and then sleeping again. He adores cuddles, and constantly expects to receive them. At the time of him arriving at the house, I was at school full time and therefore my Mum was always the one to feed and look after him (he was only 3 weeks as his mother died at the shelter) so naturally he became more attached to her. He really is a grandma’s cat

Nearly 5 years after Shady arrived, I convinced my stepdad that we ‘needed’ to get company for Shady and found the most adorable, cute looking kitten in the world at our local pet store. We brought her home, and Shady was not impressed but that’s a different blog story. At first she was quiet and timid, but that lasted all of about half a hour and her true colours started to shine through. She is the most hyperactive kitten I have ever had, and so clever as well – she has quickly learned how to use her litter tray (she is only 7 weeks) and how to wind us and Shady up. Therefore we named her Rogue Squeal.

I hope for a long and happy future with Shady and Rogue, knowing that Becks is at peace and Millie and her family are happy.
