What a Year 2009 Is...

Posted 04-14-2009 at 06:43 AM by ArmyPoohFan317

It is only April 14 and so far 2009 has been a roller coaster of a year. I have many good things happen this year, and I am looking forward to many more good things, but there has also been a lot of heartache already this year.

In the past 30 days I have buried my step-Grandma and I'm about to bury a good friend that was KIA last week in Iraq by an IED.

Not only have I had to say Good-bye to these 2 precious people, but my love life has been up an down. Right now it is on an upswing and looks to remain that way for awhile.

I'll be graduating in May with a Master's degree and 2 days later I'll start the 70 credit journey to earning my PhD. This is mostly exciting. I'm so blessed that the Lord is allowing me to stay in school, so I can get the training I want to serve the people that serve US.

There have also been the times of helping my friends and family through some hard times, death of their friends, divorce, substance abuse, etc.

As I reflect upon the first 3.5 months of 2009 I can't help but realize that it is just a typical year. Every year has its share of heartache and joy. I think the key is to maximize the joy and REALLY celebrate those times, so that in the hard times we have the memories of the parties to get us through.

It is also important to remember to tell the people you care about how you feel. You never know which conversation you have with them is going to be the last one. So tell them that you love them.

And just remember to have fun. Don't take life too seriously. God created us with a sense of humor, we need to make use of that gift. Mourn when the time is right, but then enjoy the years that you have. The bad will come, but it doesn't have to overwhelm us.

And to my friend...may you RIP and enjoy the rewards God is giving you now. Can't wait to see again when I'm called home! Thanks for loving and serving our country.
