Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.
Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.![Stick Out Tongue](https://pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

Game Shows Nowadays Have Mostly Become Unwatchable
Posted Today at 10:05 AM by case44
Earlier today, I was getting some clothes cleaned at a laundromat. Inside, there were a few television sets which showed different programs. One of them was Spectrum News 1 DFW (as in Dallas-Fort Worth), and it featured all of the weather from Hurricane Beryl as it shook Southeast Texas this morning. The other TV set was showing an episode of CBS-TV's "The Price Is Right", and I've never seen such ridiculous nonsense as what I briefly saw on it.
Folks, never mind that daytime television is nowhere near what it used to be. Game shows such as "The Price Is Right" have become unwatchable. This morning, it looked like "Let's Make A Deal" in reverse, as TPIR's host, Drew Carey, was not wearing a suit or a casual jacket, but a He-Man gladiator costume. That show has not been the same since Bob Barker was its host. The contestants have no sense of decorum or courtesy. They never thank the host after they finish playing the game. Audiences have become rowdy. Their announcer sounds like he belongs in championship wrestling and not a game show.
Carey was a successful comedian, but he has not been a great host of this once-great show. Other game shows of the day are not any better. Probably the best of today's game show landscape would be "Jeopardy!", as it still has a little class left in it.
Oh, well.
Those of us with cable subscriptions can find a game show channel and reminisce on how things used to be. There are also snippets available on YouTube, including those which are hard to find. As for today's TV landscape, well, just forget it. Not worth anybody's time.
