Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

The Austin Radio Network Reaches The End Of An Era

Posted 06-05-2024 at 05:37 PM by case44

The change in the radio landscape of Austin, Texas, was very swift on June 1. KOKE-FM (99.3 and 98.5) and its associated entities have been sold to Norsan Media, and the legend that had been KOKE-FM, known as "Austin Texas Country", was put to rest. They won't be on the radio anymore.

Austin radio, like it or not, will never be the same again. KOKE is offering an exclusive streamline to keep fans holding up as things change. Instead of progressive and classic country, listeners to 99.3 and 98.5 will be greeted with a Spanish-language format. Yeah, just what Austin needs more of, right? Longtime radio jocks Bob Cole, Eric Raines, and Deena Blake chose to resign from the outlet, ending an era of Austin radio which is unlikely to happen ever again. They'll fill some other positions elsewhere, but things won't be the same. In addition, sports talker 104.9, The Horn (KTXX-FM), has also changed formats to the same Spanish agenda. And while some Austin-area FMs do have digital subchannels, they may not be enough to overcome the losses of what local radio in the Capital City was all about.

The era just spoken of wasn't long enough, but it was an era nonetheless. And one not to be forgotten.
