Going to church, reading the bible, listening to Christian music will not advance your spiritual life. These activities may give you more understanding but until you are ready to lay down your life and take up your cross this leads nowhere.

What I am talking about is the sacrifice of self to advance the cause of Jesus Christ in the world. There is a destiny that God had for each of us that only we can personally discover. We can discover it only by detaching from the world and making ourselves available for the Holy Spirit. By detaching from the world--now you have time--the commodity that most Christians are not willing to give.

Jesus said, "Self-help is not help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, to finding yourself, your true self. (Matthew 16:25)

"God has planted eternity in the human heart." (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

"Anyone who lets himself be distracted from the work I plan for him is not fit for the Kingdom of God." (Luke 9:62)

"The most important thing is that I complete my mission, the work that the Lord Jesus gave me." (Acts 20:24)

"We have been sent to speak for Christ." (2 Corinthians 5:20)

"We are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus, to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." (Ephesians 2:10)

Fixing Our Eyes

Posted 10-15-2023 at 04:55 PM by Albert Finch

Hebrews 2:1 - "Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it."

Drifting becomes our natural tendency when our eyes are not fixed. While keeping our attention fixed on God is more of an exercise of dependence rather than independence, it's still an exercise!

In the spirit, we must seek God on what it looks like to stay actively engaged, whether it's spiritually planting our feet in our Christ calling, treading water, or holding on to (depending on) Him in our season. It won't be effortless; it will take exercising different spiritual muscles.

EMBRACING THE QUIET TIME

In several instances (Psalm 107:35, Isaiah 41:18, Isaiah 35:7, Psalm 84:6), we see the "moving out" of the wilderness, or dry place, and the "going forth" into pools of water as an indicator of spiritual blessing and fruitfulness.

The wilderness can be used to describe hard times, but it can also describe quiet, isolated (in a good way) times with the Lord. Either of these may describe your previous season. While alone time with the Lord is always needed (as

Jesus modeled), the more important byproduct of our getting "filled up" is becoming a conduit of the Holy Spirit's refreshment and revelation in preparation for fruit bearing that remains for the advancing Kingdom.

RESTORING OUR VISION AND MOBILITY

The pool of Bethesda (John 5:4) and the pool of Siloam (John 9:7) are famous biblical pools that God chose for restoring both vision and mobility in ways that were miraculous and partnered with the individual's belief and acts of obedience.

God is doing the same thing in this day (both spiritually and physically), restoring our vision and mobility through growing our trust and partnering with our steps forward.

This is why it's so important to not give up, even if it seems like not much is changing, because this is the time where the Lord is bringing you deeper.
