Going to church, reading the bible, listening to Christian music will not advance your spiritual life. These activities may give you more understanding but until you are ready to lay down your life and take up your cross this leads nowhere.

What I am talking about is the sacrifice of self to advance the cause of Jesus Christ in the world. There is a destiny that God had for each of us that only we can personally discover. We can discover it only by detaching from the world and making ourselves available for the Holy Spirit. By detaching from the world--now you have time--the commodity that most Christians are not willing to give.

Jesus said, "Self-help is not help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, to finding yourself, your true self. (Matthew 16:25)

"God has planted eternity in the human heart." (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

"Anyone who lets himself be distracted from the work I plan for him is not fit for the Kingdom of God." (Luke 9:62)

"The most important thing is that I complete my mission, the work that the Lord Jesus gave me." (Acts 20:24)

"We have been sent to speak for Christ." (2 Corinthians 5:20)

"We are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus, to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." (Ephesians 2:10)

"And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger because there was no room for them in the inn." Luke 2:7

Jesus' birth in a manger was the most unique and powerful entrance into His purpose and calling the world has ever seen. The typical places, such as an Inn, are already too full. So God looks for the mangers in our lives to birth His promises and our purposes. Often, when we find ourselves striving for an open door at the Inn -- as we learn to trust God in the manger, without striving for the Inn, we will see promises and purposes born we could have never even conceived on our own.

Many people are waiting to walk into their purpose and Christ calling. But what if that purpose is already swirling all around us and we just struggle to see how our current manger-like position measure up to the vision or promise we've seen in our heart? Perhaps you see the manger around you and find it more of a burden than an entry point.

An empty field is not always a negative assessment from God's perspective; it may be an invitation to sow into that which someone else will reap for generations.

Your manger is not insignificant, but strategic and purposeful. May you see yourself, your life, your circumstances, and others as God sees. May your new eyes give birth to His everlasting promises to sow, to reap, and to join Jesus in the whitened harvest He has declared for you to work.
