This is true! My parents are currently in Hendersonville touring communities. Thanks to everyone's recommendations, they're visiting Kenmure, Champion Hills, Carriage Park, and Cummings Cove. They also had Connestee Falls on their itinerary, but canceled that tour after visiting Kenmure and Champion Hills, instead choosing to use their time looking at options closer to Hendersonville.
Connestee is great but---remote. You lose cell phone coverage about a mile before you hit Connestee and the houses are spread out. I know they have tons of group activities and things to do so I suppose that is how they build a community of sorts---but it doesn't seem like the place where neighbors knock on your door. Also Brevard is really struggling with healthcare. They have had at least three local primary care doctors retire or quit or move and their hospital was also bought out by HCA recently. The retirees in the area will really struggle in the next few years and if you need specialty care you will have to go to Greenville or Charlotte for sure.
