Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Could A New Developer Just Be Calling His Bluff?

Posted 02-12-2023 at 07:35 PM by case44

Someone with a big dream decided to put together a Facebook page promoting a new water park. And he wants to put this new work in...............

...........Lubbock.

The name of the new water park is Aqua Cabana.

Now, before you start thinking, "Case, well what about Texas Water Rampage??", just relax first. It's not going anywhere, but the owner of this new undertaking insists he's talked with Lubbock officials about getting clearance and anticipates breaking ground later this year. They're shooting for a 2025 opening. While I'm excited about the potential location, as this project is expected to go in at the West State Loop 88 (or as I'd like to be calling it, the West Belt ) and 19th Street in West Lubbock, Aqua Cabana organizers have to have legal clearance before they can officially public with this.

Ohhhhhh-----kay????

The owner does have a Facebook page if you can try to decipher all the misspelled words in a mostly poorly-written promotion touting his new dream park in Lubbock. It's to be built using thirty acres in what will be part of a 133-acre cluster of new development, said to also have restaurants, apartments, and retail next to Aqua Cabana. Look, y'all, I'm for the new park like I'd like to see a lot of other things built in the Hub City. It's my sincere hope that the dude isn't bluffing, what with certain details yet to be made official, along with other projects Lubbock's still expecting that haven't yet bore fruition (see the Lubbock Aquarium, as not enough money still has been raised yet). Texas Water Rampage will be just fine; there's always going to be room for new competition. Plus, the area is growing and residents want something new.

Time to play the Waiting Game. We'll hope to know more real soon.

Lubbock in the Loop lists it as a rumor, which is partly why I was reluctant to post stuff about it. Also, some of these tend to fizzle out for whatever reason before any shovels hit the ground.

The area could definitely use more reasons for new hotel construction. This would help, as would the Expo Center, and the Aquarium you mentioned.
