Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Lubbock Is Texas' 10th-Largest City --- Or Is It?

Posted 01-03-2023 at 06:56 PM by case44

The internet. Sometimes, you've got to love it. Other times, well, you'd feel like chucking a rock at your computer screen.

We just want information on things, but some sources make you wonder where the numbers actually come from. This holds true in gathering population figures. You see different kinds of lists out there. While census figures from 2021 might not necessarily be wrong, it's the afterwards of it that bring so much debate.

Population figures do demand accuracy.

Usually.

Texas, you see, is growing. Most every city and town has seen some kind of growth in the last few years. Lubbock is no exception. Since the 20-aughts, the Hub City has experienced the largest population gains in its history. More people are discovering it, and, thus, are moving in. Recent trends have them possibly reaching 300,000 residents before the end of this decade. Different lists have Lubbock at number ten in Texas in population. Others have the city listed at number eleven (which, really, has been their perch in the ranks for quite a long time). Perhaps Lubbock is teetering, but then again, you have Laredo and Plano (near Dallas) which are also among the top ten in the variable publications. Lubbock and Laredo are practically jockeying for position, but both could go ahead of Plano and place right behind Corpus Christi, which sits at number 7 in Texas.

Then again, there's reason to boast about Lubbock's position at number ten! Credit should go to where credit is due for the geniuses who believe that that scenario is true.

Lubbock, Laredo, and Irving are all very close to each other, it appears. Plano seems like it’s firmly in front, for now.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Frisco went ahead of the first three I mentioned.

…especially now that Universal Studios is moving in. (I did NOT have any clue that the development would happen, but I was just going by historic growth patterns, location, and what was already there.)

In all seriousness, I wonder if someone might see an opportunity with the Joyland site. Theme parks in Houston (Astroworld) and Nashville (Opryland) have closed down, so it isn’t unique, unfortunately.
