Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Case And The Drinking Fountain Capers

When your writer needs a drink and he has no access to his water bottle (which, likely, is in my car), all he's got to do is stop by a water fountain for a swig.

But there are conditions....

That's right, ladies and gentlemen. There must be conditions for me to drink out of a water fountain. You see, the stream which emerges from the vertical spout has to go higher than that guard next to it. If it's lower than the guard, then I won't drink from that fountain. Stream's got to be higher. My mouth is not going anywhere near that guard. If I've got to resort to finding another row of fountains to satisfy my thirst, then that's what I'll do. Whenever hope springs eternal, steams must, as well.

Another thing: A fountain for drinking must be clean. If there's used chewing gum or trash visible in the draining area (YUUUUCKKKK!!), then forget it, sports fans. At that point, I'd rather drink out of the toilet. Public places should be sensitive to people's needs, and we civilians must also be respectful of the next person who uses the drinking fountain.

Nevertheless, if you must use a drinking fountain, you'd better hope that the facility you're in has a backup when the one that's available is not up to snuff. The world needs more drinking fountains. They don't have to be next to a restroom. Besides, if fifteen people stand in line to use the restroom and it's still out the door, then you can't get to the fountain to get your sustenance.

This is especially evident at church. My water bottle is in the car and I cannot take it into the Worship Center after Bible study class, so, for goodness sake, something has to give, right? If a water fountain is clean and has a high stream, then you can bet that Case will get his swig.

I'll take my bottled water if I have to. You can't trust most anything in public anymore.
