Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Hard Bread, Hard Butter --- Restaurants Can Do Better

Posted 04-19-2022 at 05:31 PM by case44

I enjoy going out and trying different restaurants. Often, I find favorites and would eventually pledge a bit of loyalty whenever I make return visits.

Sometimes, you'll find food items which work best for you, for your tastes. Other times, you end up scratching your head, wondering why this selection was made this way when it could have been made another way. Such is the case with bread and butter. I have never understood why restaurateurs have an obsession with serving hard bread and hard butter. Why couldn't bread come to our table nice and soft? Why couldn't we have butter that's easy to spread?

My goodness, at many locations, you'd need something that plugs in from Black & Decker. Bread needs to have a softer and more manageable texture; I mean, you'd want to keep all of your teeth. You take your bread (nice and warm) and spread some sooooooooft butter all over it. What is butter?? It does not need to be an iron-hard slab of gold. It should come out to your table soft, whichever way it appears. I prefer mine whipped, but sticks of butter can be softened before serving. It can't be that much to ask. Spreading butter does not need to be a chore, for goodness sake. I don't care if the meal costs fifteen dollars or eighty-five dollars; my bread must be reasonably soft, not tough. Just try to picture it, folks; you know what I'm talking about.

After all, your next meal at your favorite sit-down place should offer the best and give us all pleasure, not the agony of chewing your bread sixty-two times and developing arth-u-ritis!
