hunterseat df: Hunter Seat Equitation is a division that is judged on the ability and the style of the rider. The riders can be judged both over fences and on the flat.

Although true, hunters DO eat, at least the skilled ones do, my name derives from the world of horses.

And because the word hunter is in my name, people automatically think I'm a guy. Not even close.

Whenever I meet someone named Hunter I have to bite my tongue to keep from saying "That's my name, too!"

14. Long-ish Strange (for sure) Trip

Posted 04-08-2022 at 10:50 PM by hunterseat

I'm going to have to break out that Grateful Dead song "Truckin'". I'm starting to see just how strange this trip really is becoming.
To bring this blog up-to-date, I'm still awaiting the closing of my west coast house. But thankfully it's approaching.

I found a fairly large property back east and am buying it sight unseen (except for pictures). The property is perfect. There are two living quarters, a house and a trailer, both of which need probably full renovation. Both are small, which will help with materials.

I'm really excited. Here's what I plan:
1.Get fence ready for horses and figure out best place to house them fast. They'll need some kind of shelter to let them get out of the rain. I can worry about winter a little later.
2. Get roll-off dumpster at trailer and empty it of all "stuff". That may include cabinets and plumbing fixtures if need be. Definitely carpet. That's if it looks salvageable. If not, still empty and then deal with that later. I'm hoping it will at least offer a bathroom that is usable or I may be dealing with a porta potty while I get the house done. Floor is reportedly soft so that would need replacing. etc.

3. EXPLORE THE PROPERTY (to be done sporadically and intermittently with much joy)

4. House has to be taken down inside to the studs. That will require another dumpster, which is why I want to do the trailer first (probably) Insulation, Electrical, Plumbing will be my priority. Also any structural modifications. (the rooms are really small, might take a wall out)
Fun facts: There are two old barn structures that I plan to salvage lumber from, assuming they aren't sound for livestock.

There's a cement block garage that may be my headquarters to start. Seeing how I'm currently living in a garage I don't think that will be too rough on me. I plan to pressure wash and paint the garage inside and out. Seal cracks if need be, possibly insulate at some point. I can practice on my colors for the house, which is a farm house/cottage type. ANY SUGGESTIONS ON SMALL FARMHOUSE COLORS ARE WELCOME. I plan to keep it light, if not white, then off white/ivory/cream but I'm not decided on trim.

So there's my update. I should have the property by next week. Then I can see about shipping my pallet (my sole remaining possessions) there.
