My Daily Life and Thoughts while in San Diego | List of Best Posts
This blog is where I express myself to the world or at least to those who might stop by to read what I post . Maybe God will use what I post (I am a Christian and this blog will have a most decidedly Christian bent to it) to good effect in the lives of my readers.

I may turn some of my posts into a book. I may cease blogging here altogether. Who knows. But for now..I am content to post away in this, my own little corner of the world.

Rather than reading through my now lengthy list of posts you may wish to read what I consider to be my very best posts or you can just read the posts that deal with a single subject category that might interest you.

Please know that I am open to any input on any topic I write about. If you have something to say about anything you see written here please....feel free to speak up in the form of leaving a comment or sending me a PM (private message).

And if you are in San Diego and wish to meet the one and only Carlos (that's me )...drop me a private message. I always enjoy meeting one of my readers!

Thanks.

Carlos

No thanks to work hanging on the back of garbage truck!

Posted 03-19-2009 at 01:29 AM by carlos123

I applied to two stores today and one yesterday. Tommorrow I hope to apply to two more. And two more after that.

I absolutely HATE taking the time to fill out applications but at this point it can't be helped. I've got to do something to get some money rolling.

My mom in my home country is suffering financial hardship and as her oldest son I need to rise up to the plate and start sending her some money. I wish the government did not require me to hand over my money to help some older person to whom I am not related and that I could just give that money to my mom. Social Security is such a rip off. My mom doesn't even have Medicare. She could not afford to give the government $100 a month for Medicare of the $1000 or so that she gets so she gave that up.

I went to the local daily work, daily pay place a few days ago and for the first time they said they might just have some work available but that it involved hanging on the back of a garbage truck and showing up at the temp office at around 4:30 AM. 4:30 AM!! That's insanely early.

I'd have to get up at 3:00 AM just to make it there by 4:30 AM not to mention that I might not even be awake enough on arriving to know who I am or what I was there for LOL.

I did hanging on the back of a garbage truck once. For one day. Almost died. My fellow garbage men for the day reached into the only water container we had with their hands full of garbage to grab their pop. Which dirtied the water. The only water I had available to drink. On a terribly hot, summer day in Florida.

I didn't feel like taking the chance of catching typhod or something from the water full of floating garbage particles.

With the exception of being able to drink some water at lunch from a convenience store...I had no other water for the 7 hours of our garbage run. I just about fainted and died (or it felt like I was going to die).

Had to jump off the truck, grab the garbage cans, dump them while slightly jogging, then catch up to the truck while it continued moving down the street and jump back on.

My muscles at 20 years younger than I am today were so sore when I got done that I could barely move. And I had worked in the hot sun with almost no water at all.

The absolutely toughest job I ever did in my entire life.

There is no way I was going to get up at 3:00 AM to go hang out on the back of a garbage truck again...at my 50 years of age.

I will go bottle picking before I do that!

Hopefully one of the stores I am applying to will give me a job. I hate meaningless, dead end, uninteresting jobs too but one has to do what one has to do to make ends meet.

I kinda wondered as I was going around if the Lord might not want me to just continue living by faith. Living by faith is tough. It's so much easier when one can rely on something visible as a source of income. But such a thing is not neccessarily God's will for me at this time. At least until He opens a door for me to have a more consistent income stream.

Having a hope of making a living over the Internet as something to work for will help me endure the drudgery of a low paying, dead end job which will provide me the money to start up my own internet business.

I bought myself a box of twelve mini-popsicles at the dollar store on the way back home tonight and enjoyed eating them all as I walked home. It took me forever to walk home as I would stop once in a while, break out another one, peel the paper off, and begin to much on it while meandering home in no big hurry to be anywhere or do anything.

How the simple pleasures of life can be so grand sometimes!

Living in sunny San Diego is an added plus!

I may be poor at present buy hey...I got the Lord, and my ice cream (well kinda if one can call popsicles ice cream), and sunshine. I'd say I am doing pretty good. Pretty good indeed!
