Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Foodie Findings: Servers Can Be Pretty Funny Sometimes

Posted 02-10-2022 at 06:28 PM by case44

Dining at restaurants can be a pleasant thing. Or it could be an adventure. Depending on where you go, what time it is, and how much luck you may or may not have, it would either come out with an excellent, decent, mediocre, or poor outcome.

Well, tonight at Abuelo's in The Colony, Texas, went just fine. They had a lady training a young man how to take orders and follow up with customers just like a good waiter/waitress is supposed to do. We got the orders put in and even though I waited a little longer for my queso than I normally would have, tonight seemed like it would be really great. Like in any experience out, it's funny how my server always comes by the table and wants to know if my food tasted good. So, my meal of enchiladas, taco, tamale, chile relleno, rice, and refrieds arrives at my table. I dig in, and often, one thing I think about is how the server likes to get the customer right in the middle of a bite. You've had it happen many a time, I'm sure. But Ol' Case gets a real kick out of his waiter or waitress when he or she would approach my table, knowing full well that my mouth will be too full to speak, at the risk of bad manners in front of others. It's also the duty of the server to make sure that the customer is doing alright. Fair play, but still....

The scenario at hand makes for a lovely playwright script.

Server: Hey, there. Is everything tasting good tonight?
Case (with mouth full): Mmmevemythim ith juth marmeluth. Gweat stuv.

Shouldn't the server just wait until I finish the bite? Manners are everything, are they not? Yes, I was alone at the table with no party, but that's not important now. Basically, it's the principle of one's finding out and the quest du jour that gets employed here. Case should have just stopped biting into the crispy taco. I can picture myself playing with the wait stuff, between their attempt at asking how my food is and me stopping my actual eating so I can foil their semi-comical ways of seeing that I'm fine. Imagine if that had gone back and forth.

Oh, and when the lady came to me and wondered if she'd entice me with dessert, well, my response was "I'm stuffed". We can just wait and do another visit just so I can have dessert.

Look, the visit went just fine tonight. It was good food at a good place. These restaurant capers can really make great stories.

Gotta love those servers. Making memories does go beyond having great food.

So that's what writing with your mouth full looks like.
