Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.
Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.![Stick Out Tongue](https://pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

As TXDOT Studies Improvements In East Texas, Let's First Look At The Rest Areas
Posted 07-19-2021 at 05:40 PM by case44
In Texas, we have a lot of old highways, but the good thing is, we've invested in making improvements through the years. We're not exactly done yet, as there is still some significant highway mileage in need of upgrades.
The Texas Department of Transportation has been busy trying to keep mobility in peak form all over. As the focus shifts to East Texas and, in particular, Interstate 20, it appears the needs are greater than ever. It's a relatively old highway in need of new pavement and adjustments. Below are a few links to trusted TXDOT sites which discuss I-20's future. Yes, the study was several years back, but the proposed projects haven't happened yet.

While the following is not mentioned anywhere, as the road is being considered for reconstruction and/or rehabilitation, the glaring need happens somewhere between Canton and Van. It's the one rest area between Dallas and the Louisiana Welcome Center. That one rest area is in dire need of an overhaul, either at its current site or possibly a rebuild at another location.
I would strongly recommend TXDOT look at this, and given that numerous rebuilds were made with rest areas elsewhere in the state, including Interstate 20, I have faith they will. They must. It's an awful rest area and East Texans deserve the same improvements like the ones seen on I-35. Couldn't be too much to ask.
Yes, travelers, we can dream for now.
