Working in the Garden (Reposted from 2010)
Isaiah 61:11- For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to sprout up, so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to sprout up before all the nations. At this time of year many people will soon plant gardens, and they might provide extra space and effort for their favorite things to grow. We could be called the Lord's favorites when we consider his plan for our salvation. He sent his only begotten son Jesus into the world to be a sacrifice for our sins, so we could be reconciled to him. Jesus did this for us because he loves us and none of our own works could save us. We are told this in God's word at John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Many weeds will also spring up in God's "garden." They are the enemies of God who oppose or disbelieve him, and the Lord promises that he will uproot and destroy them. Coming to faith in Jesus and following him is the only thing we can do to secure our salvation, and is the only thing that God will accept. We all need to be good plants in God's "garden" and come to Jesus. What About Jesus?.
