Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Some Things Are Better Served On My Own

As a C-D member, I've seen all kinds of things happen on this forum through the years. You and I have seen the good, the great, the brilliant, the so-so, the bad, the ugly, the redundant, the farcical, and the nonsensical.

Yes, such things do happen on City-Data , where it's great to be alive.

Some posters get it and others don't. And when it comes to starting new threads, you have to have something to keep it going, where there will be engagement, where posts will make the thread mean something. On the Music forums, we share music. Sometimes, we have threads specifically designed for discussion, others have a combination of discussion plus YouTube videos to showcase the music in physical and auditory form. And then you have threads such as "What Song Are You Listening To RIGHT NOW?", which highlights songs and literature that we partake of in real time. So, you get lots of different things when you explore the Music forums.

But when someone (and I won't reveal who, not that that really matters) starts a thread with no purpose at all except for us to languish on that one post. Oh, I'm sure it's a great piece of music and meant to serve a certain purpose, and I've got nothing against that particular form of music and it's worth listening to. But that particular style and genre can't easily lend itself to more diversity and multiple responses, and I doubt anyone (including yours truly) could adequately respond with another artist or song. Oh, and that particular poster in question also started ---- Are you ready for this??? ---- ten other threads with basically that same concept. So, there became ten threads cluttering up the Music forums with virtually no chance of going anywhere. They'll all be languishing and drifting away, off to the hinterlands of Page 64. It's bad enough that some veteran posters, let alone new ones, don't really know how to properly start new threads. But you have to wonder with posters like the one I just mentioned if he/she really understood what he/she was doing, and what the real motive is.

As for me, if I really wanted to listen to long, relaxing music on long play, then I don't need a thread to point me in that direction. I can just go to YouTube or Rumble to get my fix. Threads that go nowhere,..................well, don't.

That poster has been banned and the threads rendered useless, but it just proves my point. Whenever you start threads, you have to have a real game plan for member engagement; otherwise, you lose your party real quick. Said lesson learned right here on Case's Column.
