Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.
Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Valdez Could Be Back With The Astros Sooner, And That's Huge

For a brief time, Houston Astros fans were led to believe that Framber Valdez might be lost for the 2021 season after breaking his ring finger on a recent fielding play in a game. Amazing how press writers and other sources tend to overspeculate without looking at the actual facts.
Some good news did come out this past week. Valdez won't miss all of 2021 after all, and he won't need surgery, either. I didn't think he needed it, and I'm not even a doctor. But since the Astros signed Jake Odorizzi to a 2-year-with-an-option deal, putting him and Valdez together in the rotation was what I've wanted to see. When healthy, the Astros will be deep in their starting staff this year.
Look at the names: Zack Greinke. Lance McCullers, Jr. Jose Urquidy. Cristian Javier. You put them with the aforementioned Odorizzi and a healthy Valdez, and this is a rotation that can carry you to a division title and deep into the playoffs. And this is not to mention even a remote possibility that Justin Verlander could return from Tommy John surgery in, at the earliest, September. This team wants to win another World Series. It's also, for now, their last big hope for possibly a few years. Stay tuned to see when Valdez might return, and I think it's sooner than most people think.
In the meanwhile, Astros fans can eagerly wait for the anticipated arrival of center field prospect Pedro Leon. I cannot wait!
