Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Rush Limbaugh (1951 - 2021): Radio Pioneer, Innovator, Patriot

Posted 02-18-2021 at 09:17 AM by case44

What I heard on the radio yesterday (as of this writing) did not come as a surprise, as he's had to fight Stage 4 throat cancer for the past year. It was a just a disappointment to hear, period.

This writer will have to find another show to listen to at 11 each weekday morning now that a giant is no longer with us. Rush Limbaugh, Mister EIB, the Doctor of Democracy and the Voice of Reason for millions of Americans, passed away Wednesday at age 70. Radio life changed when he went national thirty-three years ago right after he had a successful gig in Sacramento, and radio life is about to change again. Rush Hudson Limbaugh had a full life, and what a life it was!

In the 1980s, radio was forever changed, as Rush brought new thoughts and a new perspective to the medium. And during that time, our nation's media monopoly was being exposed, not just for what it did, but also for what it didn't do. The EIB (Excellence In Broadcasting) Network brought us the world and America in a whole new, but badly-needed way. Conservatism was brought to the forefront like never before, and it drew millions of listeners. Rush had become a powerful name in radio by the 1990s.

He's a proud native of Missouri and had a great following there. He also spent time in the Kansas City Royals baseball organization to do promotions with the franchise. So, I actually associate Rush with Missouri and Kansas City. On his radio broadcasts, he never shied away from talking about his Missouri roots or any and all things Kansas City.

For many years, though, this writer spent many a day listening to this radio icon. Funny, witty, sometimes sardonic, but always on point, Rush gave Americans his insight on political and American happenings. Where he became controversial was only seen through the eyes of those who don't subscribe to his opinions, thoughts, musings, or precepts. I don't have to believe the asinine comments made by those in the media who disagreed with him or had taken him out of context. What we're doing now is remembering him and memorializing him. He was a legend and he was an icon for patrotism, conservatism, and, as Rush would say, "everything that matters". When Rush was off the air for that extended period in the last two weeks since the Tuesday which he was last on the air, I knew that something was up.

Rest in peace, Rush, and thanks, millions of times over, for exposing real-life happenings to the world which many American journalists refuse to cover. You will be missed more than you'll ever know.

Eleven o'clock a.m., Central Time, will never be the same going forward.
