Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Time For The Buddy Holly Hall To Finally Open

Posted 01-12-2021 at 07:45 PM by case44

When not much else had been proposed for Lubbock in past years and had actually succeeded, the new Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences has reached the point of exceeding everyone's expectations.

It is becoming a reality, folks. Believe it.

Come January 23, the very group that this facility was born for will grace the stage for the venue's maiden voyage. That would be the Lubbock Symphony. It is only fitting. But later on, the Buddy Holly Hall will host other singers of all genres, as well as the Lubbock Ballet, and countless other endeavors, fine arts or no. Acoustics which rival those of Carnegie Hall befit the big auditorium setting. They'll also have a smaller theater for other artists to perform in. People will also get a kick out of the vast spiral staircase which comes off the main lobby.

The video below will give you sort of a sneak peek, but much more has been completed since. Hopefully, soon, there will be more pictures online of the completed product.

One Lubbock artist who won't be there (other than Buddy Holly himself), is Mac Davis. He passed away several months back, and I know he would have loved an opportunity to perform his music in this new gem.

Some people there say that it’s on par with any in the state, and it may be even a little nicer than some big city venues.

My guess is that the pandemic delayed the project in several ways:

    1. Construction workers were quarantined and the site was shut down on occasion.

    2. Building material factories around the world were idled.

The latter delayed the opening of the Womble Basketball Center two miles away on the TTU campus, so I’d imagine that the same probably happened at many other sites, including Buddy Holly Hall.
