Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

We Still Have Two Beatles Around Even Today

Posted 01-07-2021 at 04:57 PM by case44

For any fan of The Beatles, you still have a little solace. Two of their members are still alive even as I am writing this chickenscratch, and they are still kicking.

Paul McCartney. Ringo Starr. One half of the Fab Four. And, yes, in 2021, they're still here for all of us to share our musical lives with.

In fact, Paul just did a tribute to his friend and rival, Gerry Marsden (late of Gerry & The Pacemakers), who just passed away a few days ago at age 78. There are some great stories about those two groups back in the early days in Liverpool. But Paul has come a long way and is still regarded as one of the greatest songwriters ever (along with longtime collaborator John Lennon), not just in his generation.

Then you have Ringo. As a drummer, he was unusual (a lefthanded chap playing on a righthanded set), but also innovative in his day, and his influence transcends mere innovation. Phil Collins, fellow Englishman that he is, was one guy who was influenced in his younger years by Ringo. But just as big as The Beatles were, let's not forget all of the members' solo works, either. At age 80, Starr had already released twenty solo studio albums, the last of which came in 2019.

Enjoy these two legends while you still can, folks. Those are our connections to a simpler time.

Love a good music chat so this particular thread caught my eye. It takes good storytelling to write a good song, if you've got a good story the song will practically write itself as long as you've got the pencil handy to catch all the gold on its way out. Wishing there were more good music in the mainstream today, however, it'll circle back around. The public will demand good music again and we'll get another spree of excellence in the mainstream again at some point I'm sure. Until then, just throw on those old records and take a trip through time..

Been an excellent start to the new year and feeling inspired to lift people in my community, especially after all the challenges that last year brought..
    Stay good out there.
