Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

The Rose Bowl In Texas? Believe It This Time

Posted 12-31-2020 at 05:52 PM by case44

Ahhh, bowl season, football-style. When Christmas passes and Baby New Year has yet to emerge from the ashes, college football anticipates one of the bigger games we all wait to see.

The other big game is the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, but the one your favorite blogger is talking about is the Rose Bowl in Pasad----

What???! Say that again???

It was in Pasadena until California's crazed governor Gavin "Gruesome" Newsom shut down the state because of COVID cases (actually, overprotection and deranged, unnecessary nanny control, but that's another post for another day). So, while America waits for the National Championship Game to commence in Miami, this year's Rose Bowl will take place in.......

Arlington, Texas.

That's right, sports fans. A T & T Stadium. Jerry World, to you and me. Leave it to Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to remedy what didn't have to be a lost cause, and move one of college football's big playoff showcases to the big home of the Cowboys. It'll nonetheless be a great place to play. You'll see the 1 and 4 seeds (Alabama and Notre Dame) square off at Jerry World while the 2 and 3 seeds (Clemson and Ohio State) will do their thing at Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Both of those games are tomorrow.

But the Rose Bowl in Texas?? In Arlington? That will take some digesting. For grins, they should have had the game a hundred miles away in Tyler. After all, the East Texas city is the Rose City. Except for one thing, though. Rose Stadium is but a high school stadium and would need thousands of temporary seats for an event like the Rose Bowl.

Extricating the enmeshed: Jerry Jones has to be a hero now, even if it's not even for his own pro football team.

And, also, no, the game couldn't be played in Pasadena, Texas, either. There's no way that the University of Houston or the Texans could just dismantle their stadiums and move them temporarily to the Houston suburb for just one day.

I'm sure Mickey Gilley probably wouldn't mind....
