Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.
Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.![Stick Out Tongue](https://pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

The Eyes Of Texas Are Upon You ---- Or Are They?
This is what chaps me about political correctness: We've let it control us way too much. Now, it seems like, everything in every relationship of life offends someone.
And the latest in the political correctness merry-go-round? None other than pure Texas Longhorn tradition. That's right, THE University of Texas, in recent years, not exactly the biggest bastion of conservatism in university life (it, sadly, has been the opposite), has gone off the rails with the recent publicity surrounding, of all people, The Texas Longhorn Band.
You're kidding, aren't you, Case?? The Showband of the Southwest, mired in controversy?? While, I'll be a monkey's uncle. I wouldn't think that....
Oh, yes, they are. And you won't believe what this involves. I'll tell y'all what it is. It's "The Eyes Of Texas". Seriously?? That's UT's alma mater, for goodness sake. So, how in the hot fudge has it become offensive? I mean, goodness, so what if there are any perceived "racist" ties to the origins of that song? A lot of people today are so uneducated in history these days that they don't even know Robert E. Lee from Robert Maxwell.
It is UT's alma mater, so that song must be played after every game. I've always looked forward to hearing it before the baseball games after our National Anthem.
Longhorn Band members, do you remember why you signed up for this? Band members play music. And you've played things in high school that are probably far more controversial than what you believe "The Eyes Of Texas" to be. You signed up for this. If you don't like your school's situation or tradition, then please quit! Just quit. Leave UT. Go to Cal-Berkeley or something like that. It's just a song. Play the damn song!! America is sick and tired of you wussies that can't deal with things in life and have to cherry-pick what's good and what's bad to fit some sick-arsed political agenda. I see nothing wrong with "The Eyes Of Texas", as it steeped in Longhorn tradition. And it's going to stay that way. The thing about history to understand is, sometimes you have mistakes, and sometimes you have change. People can learn from history, and rejecting it only leads to a lack of knowledge.
Sick of political correctness?? This writer is beyond ready to cancel "Cancel Culture". It's time, if it wasn't already.

Sorta off-topic, but I feel bad for the seniors participating in these marching bands. I know people bring up the senior athletes, for good reason, but a lot of the band members (a lot of whom have worked extremely hard) were looking forward to going out on a high note (maybe pun intended?). It has to have been a letdown, especially for those who haven’t participated, at all this season.
Felt lucky to have seen Tech’s Goin’ Band From Raiderland perform in person a few weeks back, even if it was 1/2 size and only played in the stands during the pregame and at halftime.Posted 11-13-2020 at 11:14 AM by shoe01 -
The Showband of the Southwest has a new director for the coming school year. He's also black. Let's hope he doesn't %#&$@ with "The Eyes Of Texas".
