Motorcycle Group Rides: Grrr....

Thirty three years of riding on the street, couple of those also on woods/trails, and three during when I was mostly OFF the street road racing a sportbike with AFM in California. Dozens of track days, track marshal in the late 1990s and early 2000s both here (WA State) and in CA. I've owned 13 bikes, though currently "none" for the first time since 1987.
....And I wouldn't go on a "group ride" with people I don't know well under any circumstances, that's where Mr. Mayhem tends to lurk. w/o exception the most horrific wrecks and ******* behavior, though depends on the crowd. I have no known way of filtering them out. There's often one, just one, and he's the ******* who "inspires" others or (on occasion) plows into something, has no idea what he's doing, rides in a manner that attracts helicopters, etc. It's called "ego" and if I had a buck for every dumbass I've helped out of a ditch, off the sidewalk, or hustled off an in ambulance with mild to substantial injuries, well....
All were avoidable. On one memorable occasion I was apparently "the target" for some young gun who subsequently landed in the hospital with a totaled bike and thankfully modest (only) injuries. Never determined if he got what he wanted, trying to keep up with "the ex racer dude" on a literbike, moi.
3 guys max in a group, and choose your peers wisely. Want to prove something, go win some AMA or WERA races and try again.
Just sayin' I'm that old buzzard with a touch of gray leaning on the BMW, standing apart, who doesn't say much but has probably seen it all.
