Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Frisco Classes Of 2020 Get What They Deserve: A Sunny Commencement

Here's another reason to be glad Texas is reopening: High school seniors will not only graduate, but they'll get to participate in commencement exercises.

Really.

Now, you know that commencements are what usually happen during this time of year, but remember, Two Zero, Two Zero has not been an ordinary year. This could have just as easily not happened at all. Thanks to God and the miracle of healing (and all kinds of other intervention ), Texas high school seniors can have their commencement exercises, even if many of them might be a little different from normal. They'll have their diplomas and they can walk away with something memorable. It won't erase the pain and misery of the last two months, but it can give graduates something they can remember.

And in Frisco, Texas, we have arrived at a weekend where ten high schools in their school district are holding commencement. And Mother Nature has been very good to these kids, their families, faculty members, principals, and one great superintendent. The ceremonies are all outdoors this year in the wake of the Chinese coronavirus, at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, instead of at Dr Pepper Arena, where it otherwise would have been. This particular year is especially significant, in that two high schools are graduating their very first class.

Lebanon Trail has been mentioned on Case's Column as a unique school having had a unique situation, as the campus opened four years ago with only freshmen. I have watched them grow up before my very eyes these last few years, especially the band department. The 250-member Blazer band will finally be saying goodbye to the first class of band pupils the school has seen. Leadership was the number one thing those kids had to learn during that time. And now, these Blazers are moving on to the next phase in their lives.

Memorial High School is the other campus who is graduating their first class. It opened two years ago, and they've made their marks already in Frisco life. Congratulations to both of these fine groups of people.

So far, at this writing, seven schools have finished up with the outdoor graduations. Three more get their turns on Monday, including my school-away-from-home, Wakeland. All the best awaits these great kiddos in the next phase of their lives.

God is smiling.
