No way NYC schools open up in the fall Cal U already closed
That may be the case for some, but for most it's because our society has become structured towards two income households.

My wife and I life well within our means, to the point where people think I'm nuts for rarely buying clothes, accessories, small luxuries etc. Still, we could only barely get by nowadays on my salary alone and I make a pretty damned good living.

This is just the nature of NYC. I'd much prefer her to be home taking care of the kids.

For what it is worth, California's university system being closed doesn't mean jack in regards to NYC's schools. DeBlasio was very reluctant to close them even when this was at its peak. They will reopen in September unless the polls show Trump ahead of Biden.
The Mayor can open the schools if he wants . I don’t know how you can say it doesn’t mean Jack? The Powerful teachers union won’t be sending the teachers back to public schools . Private schools will have to be super careful or they will be out of business once the first lawsuit hits. The first person that gets sick or brings home the virus to someone else and gets them sick will lead to a Bankrupt city Lawsuits will be massive !
