Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

MLB Solution After COVID-19: Play Half Season, And Keep Leagues As They Are

Posted 05-11-2020 at 01:17 PM by case44

If you were startled by this title, then let me preface. There was this wild idea floating around Major League Baseball that the American and National Leagues be consolidated just for this year while just playing a divisional schedule. And real Americans are hankering for baseball to get going. While no official announcement has still been made regarding when or how this year's baseball games will be played, let me give you my take on this.

How should baseball come out after our COVID-19 interruption at the hands of the Chinese government? MLB should leave the American and National Leagues alone. Don't mess with them. Play a reduced 81-game schedule, beginning around July 4. Half of it could be against division opponents, and the rest against most of the rest of the league. Yes, there will continue to be interleague games for the one team in each league which remain just like before. That's what happens when each league does not have an even number of teams. As for the playoff structure, it will remain the same, with, hopefully, the same dates as originally planned.

And, also, limit the number of fans in the beginning. Fifty percent capacity until August, and then open it up. We'll be significantly past this pandemic, and Americans will practice common sense and caution. You know, sports fans, we will get through this. There will be baseball.

Book it.

No sooner do I write this column than to have KTRH breaking some news that baseball might start in mid-June with spring training, with the regular season beginning around July 4.
