Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Things You Don't Want To See At The Gas Pump

Never mind that I took a brief, but somewhat productive, road trip to East Texas after work today. I needed to munch on some good catfish and slightly spicy hush puppies from Molly's in Seven Points. To go, of course.

But here comes what I'm really needing to write about: I was in Terrell at Buc-ee's and had to stop and pump some gas into the Case-mobile. Lo and behold, on both sides of me were two people doing things you're not supposed to do at a gas pump. One person on one side of me was finished pumping his gas, but he was talking on his cell phone. That's a no-no, as a slight move can cause static electricity. Now, you know that static electricity and gas fumes don't mix. And on the other side? The pump across from where I was, the passenger in an SUV with a window open had a cigarette halfway out of it while she was smoking. What if the patron who used that spot before had spilled even a tiny bit of gasoline on the ground prior to that SUV with the smoking passenger? Let out a little bit of ash and.............

KA-BOOM!!!!

I'm just glad that the entire bay area surrounding me didn't end up in outer space. This writer got his gas (the right way) and made it out safely. People everywhere just need to be reminded of how to stay safe at the pump. Never has it stopped being about others, not ourselves.

Some places are offering gasoline for as low as $1.16 a gallon right here in Texas.

Those of you living in Cali or New England, well,.....................it'd be a long haul....
