Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Scattershooting Once More / Who Still Isn't In The Rock Hall?

Is it that time again? Pinch yourself. You're not dreaming. Time again for more Scattershooting, right here and only on City-Data, where it's great to be alive. If you're in the U.S., there's a census going 'round, and you need to participate. I made myself count. So should you.

I just checked out a website for Detroit's classic rock station WCSX-FM (94.7), and they had a list of bands and artists who have still not made it in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The very moment I saw it, I was aghast. Sooner or later, the voters that be and the powers that be just have to let these artists in. Here's the link to it:

https://wcsx.com/2018/04/17/bands-no...oll-hall-fame/

For starters, how does Burton Cummings not get in? The Guess Who had some legendary hits in the late 1960s, and Cummings had been a leading songwriter in the rock industry for many years. You'd think that, based on merit alone, Cummings could get in. Besides, the guy's still touring, recruiting the services of old bandmate Randy Bachman to join him for the 2020 tour. And, if that weren't enough, Burton is also doing an online concert during this coronavirus pandemic. Nothing terribly new, but very noble and very effective.

And somebody please put Boston in. My goodness, not many rock voices can match the depth and range of the late, great Brad Delp, for years the band's lead singer. A whole lot of other singers and bands on that station's list are deserving candidates. Their works must not be forgotten.

Well, I'll admit this: This coronavirus pandemic has seen some unprecedented grocery sales. Toilet paper, paper towels, wetnaps, soap bars, soft soap liquid, what have you? Good luck finding any. You've let that lizard remain in your gizzard, and the sheer panic is deafening. I understand stocking up, but come on, y'all. As I have previously said, it only takes a spark to get a fire going. This nation of mine is facing unprecedented times. Sports are postponing events. Restaurants are closing their dine-in formats but keeping open carryout or delivery options. Colleges and high schools are canceling all sports events, denying seniors one last opportunity at a championship. Traffic is a little lighter on freeways across the country as business models are temporarily modified. Sex is interrupted. Habits are briefly uprooted.

It's only a matter of time before life does return to normal. Those of you galoots out there hoping for a recession just because you hate a certain president, don't hold your breath for one second. The Dow was within spitting distance of 30,000 just a few weeks ago. It will eventually come back and eclipse same before the national elections. It's going to happen. America will win!

He's the most animated stockbroker Wall Street has. And Peter Tuchman, the white-haired wonder, has seen it all.

Frisco, Texas, has finally figured out a plan for the city's northern corridor. They're going to get a Midtown district. Looks like longtime rancher Baxter Brinkmann is allowing his dream to finally sprout out. Here come The Fields....

Why is Chuck Schumer still in the Senate? You mean, ever since he issued threats to two Supreme Court justices, he's still allowed to roam the U.S. Senate?? I'm holding that chamber royally accountable for not taking appropriate action against Schumer in the way of censuring him. Just because the dude has a D next to his name, that doesn't make him a good boy.

Hard to believe the quietness..........of no sports going on. What an unusual thing to try to get used to. No sports. No college baseball or basketball. No NBA or NHL. No Major League Baseball spring training.

This writer, like many of you, is already having withdrawals.

Obituaries include Kenny Rogers, known affectionately as The Gambler. Natural causes. He was 81.

Country music fans will certainly remember Kenny for his crossovers from country to pop, his ballads, and a few, well-known story songs. He frequently collaborated with singer/songwriter Lionel Richie on several tunes. And he was quite the hitmaker, amassing nineteen number one hits on Billboard's country charts. What's more, this writer even remembers the great food at Kenny Rogers Roasters, the chicken rotisserie chain he used to have here in America.

Kenny Rogers. His music will live on forever on radio stations and on my posts in Classic Country on this-here website. No two ways about it, he just had the magic touch.

U.S. Highway 175 in Dallas has a new segment to properly connect it with Interstate 45. The eastbound lanes are effectively completed, although I would think they'd still have a few touchups. The westbound is still a work in progress, but their mainlanes are visible from the current terminus point where traffic is diverted, so there's still a little work.

Most notably, this writer got to drive on that brand-new flyover off of southbound I-45 on to eastbound U.S. 175, allowing travelers quicker and better access to C.F. Hawn Freeway and Pleasant Grove. Even better, this same writer used the highway for a Saturday morning excursion to Seven Points, Texas, and to grab some fried catfish to go from Molly's Catfish Corner. After COVID-19 subsides, go check it out. Amazing catfish and dynamite hush puppies.

Joe Piscopo, late of NBC-TV's Saturday Night Live as the pompous sportscaster, is considering a run for New Jersey's governorship. He's also a supporter of President Donald Trump. He also wants to wipe out political correctness. For all that, I say, "Go for it!" New Jersey badly needs leadership right now, and Piscopo's recent convictions and hopes can now be brought to light in this run for office.

That would certainly be THE BIG STORY.

C W McCall's "Convoy" recitation contains talk about police officers (bears). The CB radio craze, if you please. Well, one lyric talked about a bear in the air. Ever wonder about that "bear in the air"? It talks about the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, who work both on the ground and in the air.

I'm reminded of how Oklahoma officials used to have those things to spot and catch speeders. The yellow signs saying "Watch your speed - We are" have long since disappeared from Oklahoma highways. But I still take them seriously. You couldn't pay me to drive in the Sooner State without paying strict attention to speeds.

Time for Case to go beddy-bye. May your dreams be nothing but good ones..............unless you have one of those cheesy, crazy, unusual sequences of events which give you a suspenseful moment by the time your alarm goes off.

And there you are.
