Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

A Few Thoughts From This Past Road Trip

Posted 03-16-2020 at 07:54 PM by case44

While I don't believe that my recent week of vacation passed that quickly, I never really wanted it to end, either. Oh, there were a few places I stopped at, but it's nothing I've never been to before.

I wanted to focus on just one town for this past vacation. If you've ever been to Granbury, Texas, then you will like the town's square. Many of the shops are geared toward women, but men can take in a show at the legendary Granbury Opera House or get a boat and explore Lake Granbury. You've heard of the City by the Bay? Well, this is the Town by the Lake. Now, for me, Granbury did offer some new culinary experiences. I'll not do a formal food review now, but I'll highlight three places:

Ketzler's Schnitzel Haus and Biergarten: Wonderful jager schnitzel with a flavorful mushroom gravy. I'll certainly be back to try some of their other things. They're closed Mondays if you're considering going.

Linda's Southern Kitchen: Their great fried pork cutlet overshadows a disappointing grilled chicken, and the latter did not have that great of a grilled texture. Also was dry. Still, they had sensational brown gravy for my mashed potatoes, and that can go great with the pork cutlet and any roast beef dish. Try their jalapeno hush puppies and dip them in some creamery butter. Good eating.

Mesquite Pit BBQ: I went twice, but struck out on the second visit. The first visit did win me over some, as they had some pretty good smoked brisket and ribs. What struck me were the cowboy beans, as that is their best side. The second visit had me trying one of their hamburgers. Very disappointing when the website falsely claiming them having to char-broil their burgers. The live menu claims flat iron. Not as good, but false advertising, nonetheless. They do char-broil their steaks for sure, so my next visit will see me trying one. It's only fair.

And the crowning touch of Granbury is that grand table mesa southeast of town known as Comanche Peak. Picture-worthy, but difficult to get a really good camera shot while in town.

Will I eventually go again? Certainly.

This coming Saturday, I have another vacation day. Plans for the TCU Jazz Festival were cancelled due to COVID-19 protection (Gee whiz, y'all, I can't wait for this ordeal to be over). Case will just get in his car, anyway, and just go wherever it takes him.
